Ivy’s Guest Book: Phebi King, Owner, Bosses ‘N’ Mums

Phebi KingTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

Hello, my name is Phebi a millennial mum to 2 wonderful children – a 4-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy – and wife to my hands-on hubby. London is my home and I absolutely love London. I previously worked as a Public Health Professional supporting mums and their families. I run my own business helping mums as a Confidence Coach. I help mums to build confidence to achieve goals whilst balancing family life.

What are your children’s favourite books?

To be honest I don’t think they have one favourite book. However, my son loves ‘Well Done Little Croc’ by Tony Maddox. I think it’s the way I read the book to him and he loves to learn the meaning behind the book. Whereas my daughter is very much into reading books about Disney’s princesses at the moment (she has outgrown Peppa Pig).

Which book do you most like reading to them and why?

I love reading any books by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. His books are inspirational for children and they teach positivity and words of affirmation and how to deal with life situations when things don’t go your way. I think it’s important to teach that to our kids and his books do just that. The book I have by my side is call I Am: Why two little words mean so much by Dr Wayne W. Dyer.

What do you look for when shopping for a new book for your child?

When shopping for a new book I always look for educational books as we all do or books that teach positivity, self confidence and books that help me to teach them about themselves and who they are.

Which character in children’s literature do you think is the best role model for kids, and why?

My kids are not particular about the characters. It’s more about what’s going on in the book that gets them excited. However, in saying that my son likes dinosaurs and knows the names of the different types of dinosaurs whereas my daughter is really into Beauty and the Beast.

What would you like to see more of in kids’ books today?

I would like to see more books that teach kids about peace and life situations – things that can get them ready for the world. Teaching about confidence. It’s also nice to have books that back you up as a parent. My kids pick up a lot from these books.

Do you have a favourite children’s bookshop?

We tend to go to the library or buy our books online.
