Can you believe that the very first Albie book was published 10 years ago? In that time, the much-loved character has starred in 10 different stories and has been a very busy little boy. He’s been to Alien School, ridden a polar bear, caught a dragon, found egyptian treasure and even swum with pirates!
His latest adventure – How to Drive a Roman Chariot – sees him whisked back in time to ancient Rome where he finds himself at the helm of a runaway chariot. Can he get the situation under control before it’s too late?
To celebrate Albie’s 10 year anniversary we are delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for this brand new book. The author, Caryl Hart has selected 10 bloggers and we will each be sharing some fun facts related to an Albie adventure and running a giveaway.
Our stop on the tour is dedicated to ‘How to Save a Superhero’ which just happens to be our personal favourite from the series. Read on to discover some fascinating facts about superheroes and to find out how you can win a copy of the book…
5 Facts about Superheroes by Caryl Hart
1 – Many superheroes are ordinary people who gain their super powers after some sort of event. Carole Danvers becomes Captain Marvel after a massive explosion, and Peter Parker becomes Spider Man after being bitten by a radioactive spider!
2 – Superman’s real name is Clark Kent. As Superman, he is super-strong, he can fly, and can hear every person’s heartbeat all over the world! But the original character invented by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster was a vagabond named Bill Dunn who was tricked by an evil scientist into taking a drug that gave him mind control powers.
3 – Fantomah was the first female superhero, created by Fletcher Hanks. She could fly, change objects into different things, and cause people to mutate! When using her superpowers, her face would turn blue and skull-like.
4 – Black Panther first appeared in 1966, after Stan Lee encouraged his artists to start including more non-white characters. The film Black Panther is the first blockbuster movie to feature almost all black actors.
5 – Jack-Jack in the Incredibles is named after the son of creator Brad Bird.
