Ivy’s Guest Book: Jo Skundric, Co-Founder, Mini Motto Clothing

Mini Motto ClothingTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

I’m Jo and I have three boys, Ollie 12, Sam 9 and Matthew 6. I am married to Nick, who I met at University and after lots of years living in South London we decided to make the move to Surrey 3 years ago.  In November 2018 with my good friend Lynsey, I launched an online children’s clothing company called Mini Motto Clothing.

What are your sons’ favourite books?

For years Matthew has loved You Choose by Pippa Goodhart and illustrated by Nick Sharratt.  The book is full of amazing illustrations with only a few words.  It is very interactive as it introduces the concept of choices to children.  It has been amazing to see the change in Matthew’s responses over time.  At the beginning he would just make a choice but over time, he began to explain the reasons for his choices and then started making stories around the choices.

Which book do you most like reading to them and why?

My favourite books to read have remained the same for all three of my children  – any by Julia Donaldson although if I had to pick one it would be Monkey Puzzle.  I enjoy reading these books as the rhymes make it flow well and also enables children to remember some of the words from a young age so they start to join in.  I love the book as it has a number of clues in the passage which gets the children guessing what animal the butterfly will show next.  All my boys found the miscommunication in the book extremely funny!

What was your favourite book when you were a child?

Growing up I was a big fan of the Worst Witch by Jill Murphy and have also really enjoyed reading some of her other books to my boys over the years, a firm favourite being ‘Peace at Last’.

What do you look for when shopping for a new book for your boys?

My boys do love a bit of humour so this is definitely one factor that I look for in books, however I also like books that are lighthearted but that also have an underlying message in them such as The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle.  This is a great book to start talking to children about having an open mind about people who are different to ourselves.

Mini Motto ClothingAbout Mini Motto Clothing

Mini Motto Clothing is a new online company specialising in clothing for children aged 2-14 years.  We believe every single child has something unique and amazing to add to this big old world we live in together. It’s just finding that something inside. Confidence and belief in yourself means so much and if you can give that to a child, who says they can’t grab their dream with both hands.   We don’t have a magic wand nor do we have a crystal ball.  But, we do have quality clothing which will make your children feel amazing and make them sit up straight ready to take on any adventure.

Made with the best quality ingredients our items are all ethically sourced, individually designed and made with love!  They wash well, will not loose their shape but most of all….they will make kids feel awesome. And that right there makes it all worthwhile we think!

From personal experience, we understand that if a child’s confidence gets knocked it takes a lot of work to build it back up. So with every order we send positive little motto’s to our customers as we feel that children can never have enough positivity in their world.
