How Big Is Our Baby? by Smriti Prasadam-Halls & Britta Teckentrup

How Big Is Our Baby? The prospect of having a new baby brother or sister can be both exciting and daunting for a toddler. A new playmate sounds fantastic but where will the baby come from and how will life change when it arrives?

When I found out I was having Ivy I bought a big book which told me what to expect from my pregnancy and beyond, and this gorgeous book is like a mini version of that for kids!

The early pages talk about what having a new baby means and how it might affect you. It addresses the fact you might be a little worried and emphasises that although life won’t be the same, it will be better because there will be even more love and cuddles.

We discover how the baby grows in mummy’s tummy because it needs to be safe and warm and then take a look at how the baby develops. What follows is a month by month guide which explains how big the baby is along, with some fun facts. At 4 months the baby is the size of a pear and is starting to grow eyebrows and hair. At 7 months baby is the size of a cauliflower and will be doing some really big kicks. At 9 months it is as big as a watermelon and is ready to be born!

The closing section is particularly helpful as it talks about how things might seem different once the baby arrives. Mummy and Daddy will be very tired and will need to dedicate a lot of time to looking after the baby but it doesn’t mean they love you any less. There are also some suggestions of things you can do to help like singing songs, pulling funny faces and reading stories.

The illustrations are gorgeous and the simple but informative text is perfect for small children aged around 3+
