Ivy’s Guest Book: Ruth Stevenson, Research Consultant, Ruthless Research

Ruthless ResearchTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

Hello I’m Ruth, and I live in Edinburgh with my husband and my four year old son Arran.  I’ve been self employed now for eight years providing research services for charities, and these days I run my business flexibly around Arran’s pre-school needs. Edinburgh is an arts and cultural hub and we do our best to take advantage of the various festivals and events that run here throughout the year.

What is your son’s favourite book?

There’s a lovely series of books based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats with illustrations by Arthur Robins, and we have the five that have come out so far.  We have read them all many times and our favourites are Skimbleshanks (the railway cat) and Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer (the cat burglars).  We enjoy the interesting rhymes and beautiful pictures, and also the opportunity to listen to the songs in the car based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical.  I can’t wait to take Arran to see Cats at the theatre some day!

Ivy’s Guest Book: Suzanne Hemming, Children’s Author, Thea Chops Books

Thea Chops BooksTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

My name is Suzanne Hemming and I live in South East London with my husband Rich and our daughter Thea who is 5.  Before having Thea I worked in the TV and film industry, but now I’m a children’s author.

What is your daughter’s favourite book?

Well I do hope that one of my books would feature highly in Thea’s top ten of favourites! Over the years she’s made requests for many of Julia Donaldson’s; we went through a stage where we read Rosie Revere, Engineer every night; and lately she really loves reading The Book With No Pictures by BJ Novak.

Ivy’s Guest Book: Ruth Buckingham, Owner, Kandu Marketing

Kandu MarketingTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

Hello! My name is Ruth and I am a content marketing specialist.  I’m originally from Scotland but I now live in Buckinghamshire with my husband and our two children, Fraser (9) and Annabel (4).  As a family we all love reading or being read to and I’m very fortunate to have a job that also allows me to read on lots of different subjects.

What are your children’s favourite books?

My daughter has a habit of changing her favourite books often!  This week she is really enjoying “Arggh Spider” by Lydia Monks.  She always likes a book which has a bit of humour and she keeps laughing when the spider gets put outside again and again.  She is starting to read at school so I think she likes this one because of the repetition.  Its also beautifully illustrated and has some nice glittery features on the spiderwebs.

Ivy’s Guest Book: Natalie Stacey, Travel Consultant, Journeys Curated

Journeys CuratedTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

I’m Natalie, I grew up in Oxfordshire but now call London home with my husband and daughter Matilda (4) and son Jasper (2).  I love to travel and have been lucky enough to combine a hobby with my job as a marketing director for the last decade. Whilst pregnant with my son I was made redundant, so I now run my own business as a travel consultant where I help families find the best possible option for their trips. I didn’t want having a family to stop me exploring the world and love helping others when they are planning adventures whilst affording me flexibility to spend time with my children.

Tranquil BirthTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

I’m Sakina. Mum of 2 boys, 7 and 4 living in South London. I’m a Hypnobirthing teacher and Birth Trauma Resolution Practitioner which I became passionate about after becoming a mother. I have always loved reading in my life and sharing books with my kids has brought so much joy and connection to my days as a mother. In those early years at home sometimes at a loss of what to do, a good book and a cuddle on the sofa would transform our day and reconnect us.

little smartsTell us a little bit about yourself and your family

Hi everyone, my name is Niki and I am a mum of three to Archie 8, Baxter 5 and Luna 3. I am married to Chris and we all live in South London. We love going to the local parks, woods, museums and of course, reading!

What are your children’s favourite books?

Luna’s favourite book changes all the time, but this week it’s ‘Oi Dog’ by Kes and Claire Gray. It’s a funny book that we enjoy reading together and Luna likes to shout out the rhyming words and loves the illustrations by Jim Field. It was great to see that this year the World Book Day chose the ‘Oi Goat’ book from the same series. I can’t wait to see which animals they are going to use in the next instalment.
