Hop Little Bunnies by Martha Mumford & Laura Hughes

Ivy always gets excited when we receive parcels of books in the post but when we opened this one she was bouncing with joy as it combines two of her favourite things – the song ‘Sleeping Bunnies’ and lots and lots of little flaps to lift and explore.

Adapted from the popular nursery rhyme, this beautiful book starts with a group of very sleepy bunnies lazing on picnic blankets. You are invited to wake them up by lifting the flaps and then turn the page to see them all ‘hop hop hop’.

The group of bunnies then take a little walk through the countryside and find lots of other animals having a snooze, including lambs, chicks, kittens and ducklings. Your little one can wake them all up by lifting the flaps (or by yelling ‘WAAAAAAKE UUUUUUP’ as Ivy chose to do!) and watch them play together.

Snuggle Down Deep by Diane Ohanesian & Emily Bornoff

As snow begins to fall around the UK, this beautiful book about hibernation is the perfect choice for bedtime.

The story shows you ten familiar animals as they all snuggle up for the winter with their families. Bears cuddle up in caves, squirrels curl up in their nests, mice tuck themselves in to the little tunnels they have dug underground and turtles dive down deep to the sticky mud at the bottom of the pond.

The choice of language is really soothing and the gentle rhyme is repetitive so I love reading this to Ivy on nights when a little extra calm is required before putting her to bed.

When Mummy Cow announces that it’s time for bed she’s not surprised when her little calves say no. After all, resisting bedtime is just what kids do. However these siblings have a very unusual reason for not wanting to catch some Zzzzs – they’re Supercows!

They excitedly explain to their mum that they can’t possibly go to bed because they simply have too much to do. Their Supercow duties include catching pirates, rescuing dragons from angry princesses, fixing broken tractors and fighting foes. If they go to sleep then who will be there to save the world? When you have a baby you seem to spend most of your time talking about or dealing with poop, then just when you think you’re done, your toddler suddenly develops a fascination with what it is and where it comes from. Sigh!

If you’re getting lots of questions about poop or having problems potty training then this fab little book from Usborne might be what you’re looking for. It’s full of fun facts and lift-the-flap sections to entertain and educate curious little minds.

What is poo made of? Does everyone poo? How much poo does an elephant do? Where does it go when you flush the loo? What kind of animal has spotty poo and whose poo looks like toffee?

Shifty McGifty And Slippery Sam by Tracey Corderoy & Steven Lenton

This book is fairly new to our collection but it has quickly become a firm favourite!

Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam are a pair of robber dogs – their goal is to steal things to make lots of money. The problem is that they are absolutely rubbish at it! Every night they come home with empty swag bags having failed yet again to burgle a bank or a shop. They decide that in order to increase their chances of success they need an easier target – their neighbours. Their plan is to hold a party, invite them all round and then sneak in to their house and steal their belongings whilst they’re having fun.

So that the party seems legit, they whip up some doughnuts, cupcakes and fruit pies, and they discover that they’re actually pretty good at baking. Very good, actually – and it turns out to be fun too! When the day of the party arrives their neighbours are all very impressed with the sugary treats and declare them the “best buns in town”.

Felicity and Jane are two African snails who are very much in love. The pair are inseparable and are looking forward to spending their lives together. Then something very special happens – Felicity finds out that she is going to have a little baby snail. She can’t wait to tell Jane, but when she does it turns out that Jane also has some special news, as she is pregnant too. They are going to be a family and are very excited!

The two expectant mums work hard to create the perfect egg chamber for their new arrivals and then together they lay their eggs and wait. It’s not long before the tiny snails start to hatch and soon Felicity and Jane are the proudest mums on the planet.

Dr Duck by Steve Smallman & Hannah George

If your little one is feeling under the weather then this funny book about an unusual doctor and his patients may be just the thing to cheer them up.

When the animals at his zoo start to fall ill, the zookeeper decides to call the local doctor – Dr Duck! When he arrives he discovers a porcupine who has sneezed so much that all her spines have shot out, a giraffe with a stiff neck, a snake with a high temperature, a mildly depressed hyena and a gorilla with wind. Dr Duck’s cures are unconventional to say the least but they seem to work and soon everyone is feeling better and relaxing in the hot tub.

Everyone that is except the poor farting gorilla. Dr Duck had prescribed some large pants with extra strong elastic to trap the smell of his stinky bottom burps – but the knickers have blown up like a balloon and the gorilla has floated off in to the sky. Can the ingenious doctor find a way to bring him back to earth before its too late?

Oi Dog! by Kes & Claire Gray and Jim Field

Oi Dog! is the second title in the zany ‘Oi Frog and Friends’ series. There are currently four books and we love each and every one!

If you’ve read book one – Oi Frog! – you’ll know that these bonkers tales are about a peculiar set of rules which dictate where an animal can sit. In the first story we met Cat, Dog and Frog. Cat explained that animals are only allowed to park their bums on things which rhyme – so cats sit on mats, frogs sit on logs and (unfortunately for this particular frog) dogs sit on frogs. Squish!

As we move in to book two we see the feisty frog choosing to rebel. He disagrees wholeheartedly with the current rules so sets about making some of his own.

We’re Going On An Elf Chase By Martha Mumford & Laura Hughes

We love this festive lift-the-flap book which will appeal to fans of the 80’s classic ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’.

Join a group of bunnies, wrapped up warm in their winter woollies, as they head off on an adventure to find Santa’s elves. On the way they encounter sliding penguins, chirping robins, snoring polar bears and clippy cloppy reindeer.

The bunnies do an excellent job of manoeuvring around the obstacles in their path but they will need your child’s help to find all the elves, who are sneakily hidden away behind flaps on the pages.

A Greyt Christmas Tail By Miriam Payne & Anne-Marie Sonneveld

Ramsey and Blue, two rescue dogs, are fast asleep in their beds dreaming of sausages when Santa and his reindeer come crashing down in their back garden. Some of the reindeer have colds and are too ill to pull the sleigh – but Santa still has a whole sack of presents to deliver and he doesn’t know what to do.

Fortunately the two dogs have a solution! Ramsey, a lurcher, is super strong and Blue is a retired greyhound who can run really fast. With a sprinkle of magic they leap to the skies and they pull Santa’s sleigh with ease.

Soon all of the presents have been safely delivered and grateful Santa asks them to make a wish. Will they ask for more sausages or will they ask for something which benefits dogs less fortunate than themselves?
